Born in 1957. British actress.

Studied at Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she received a Laurence Olivier Award, in 1991 as best actress of the year, thanks to her role in Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit, adapted by the Complicity Theatre (Annabel Arden and Simon McBurney).

She takes on numerous roles, as well in theatre as in cinema (the most popular being among others as Arabella Figg in Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix). In theatre, she recently played in Peter Brook’s The Valley of Astonishment and plays at this moment in Jeux de cartes: Cœur, the vast project by director Robert Lepage from Quebec – played at the Grand Théâtre in Luxembourg as well.

For Kulturstruktur, she smiles, kind, sits comfortably and in her voice with multiple timbres, she tells with precision the major differences between a theatre and a movie actresses’ job. The work with Peter Brook and her implication (in the writing) at Robert Lepage’s creation. She tells about the magic on stage and gives as well a glimpse at what reality is in her eyes.

Diplômée de la Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, elle a reçu un Laurence Olivier Award, en 1991 en tant que meilleure comédienne de l’année, grâce à son rôle dans The Visit adaptation de Friedrich Dürrenmatt par le Complicite Theatre (Annabel Arden and Simon McBurney).

Elle revêt nombreux rôles, aussi bien au théâtre qu’au cinéma (entre autre dans Harry Potter et l’ordre du Phénix). Au théâtre, elle a récemment joué dans The Valley of Estonisment de Peter Brook et joue actuellement dans Jeux de cartes: Cœur, le vaste projet du metteur en scène québécois, Robert Lepage – ce, notamment au Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg.

A Kulturstruktur, elle s’est assise confortablement, souriante, aimable et de sa voix à timbres multiples, elle raconte en toute précision, les différences majeures entre le métier de comédienne et celui d’actrice de cinéma. Le travail avec Peter Brook et puis son implication (jusque dans l’écriture) chez Robert Lepage. Elle livre aussi sa magie de la scène et laisse entrevoir une idée de ce qu’est sa réalité.
